Good To See there are still some dirt roads close to home

I did something similar last Sunday

Went a did a few hundred exploring roads out the back of Berwick, Nar Nar Goon, Gembrook, Cockatoo, Healesville and Dixon’s Creek.

So much goodness just hidden a minute off the black stuff.

The road between Chum Creek and Dixon’s Creek which follows the side of Mount Slide was pretty epic. Amazing views.

I do need to get some better tyres though.
My road tyres are just not quite holding enough traction.

Not just sure I want to throw a good set of rubber in the bin. Seems wasteful.

Get another set of wheels Greg. It might seem expensive at the time, but good dirt tyres are cheap insurance I reckon. Put the road tyres on for a trip, and the others for a day ride. Wheel sets come up on ADVRider now and again. Or another bike, my preferred option :)

Cheap and BMW do not belong in the same sentence 🤣

You of all people should know this Squiz!

You would think I am out in the country!!

Actually, just out past Epping! Directly behind me is a whole build up suburb!!! Crazy

Peeps only scoff when I try to tell them there's over 3000km of sweet dirt + single-laner "adv"- riding within a 60km radius to the north+north-east of Melbourne CBD (as the crow flies).
Gravel, single-laners, water-crossings, old orchard tracks and byways and farm-roads, State+Nat parks, scenic ridge-roads and nasty clay-tracks etc, etc...it's all there!
For those who know.
Thanks for showing us part of it :)

Goodonya!

Fully agree on the hoops...they are the most important part of the equation.
While it seems wasteful to ditch some good rubber....how much is a shoulder or lower leg fracture worth?
The price of a Mitas 07 front is nothing in comparison....keep tyhe rear for the time being and get familiar with a somewhat twitchy rear-end....before "wasting" another couple of hundred on a Shinko 705 (road-ish, but pretty damn good overall, used it for a decade on the Stroms)....or a mating Mitas 07 or such (a little more "dirty")
