A Qld Escape

Keen to see some sunshine I left Melbourne on Sunday 4th September. First night at Myrtleford, then up to Dubbo for the Monday night. After 600km on the single it was time for a rest. For a Monday night the pub near the Motel was flat out.

Keen to clear the cooler climate I left early and made tracks for Hebel, which is just over the Qld border. The offer of free camping at the back of the pub was too good to pass up. Just had to cross the road to the store for food. Was great chatting with the locals.

I was meeting a mate at Chinchilla on the Friday, so with a day to spare I chose Tara as my next destination. The MotoGuzzi belonged to a 70yr old and the Ducati belonged to his 40 yr old daughter. They were doing a Birthday ride together. We had a lovely evening in the pub.

After Tara, it was a short ride up to Chinchilla where I'd booked a camp site for 3 days. I'd just got set up and down it came. Had to purchase a brolly for the walk into town. 27mm overnight.

Next day it cleared up by 9 am, my mate duly arrived and we went back to the pub for a de- brief.
The sun was out on Saturday, but I was foggy, as we set out for a ride in the Barakula forest.

The river crossing was at 4 m deep. So we bailed on that and turned back to camp. A huge amount of water on the roadsides.
Next day it was back to Brisbane, via Ravensbourne National Park and Lockyer National Park. Great dirt roads!

2 days in Brisbane, more fog in my noodle, it was time to head South. I was visiting folk in Inverell. Stopped on the road before Texas to snap a couple of pics. Then on to Ashford for lunch.

After a night in Inverell, I was heading to the coast via the Oxley highway. As fortune would have it the highway was closed for repairs and a nice 45 km detour through Bulga Forest ,through Elands and on to Comboyne before dropping down into Port Macquarie Ellenborough Falls was a highlight of the detour.
